BULL DOFF wurde 2010 von der südfranzösischen Designerin
Laure Tarot, Gewinnerin des 'See Africa Differently' Wettbewerbs und
Gewinnerin der Dakar Sira Vision 2012, ein Wettbewerb für junge Designer und
Baaye Sooley, seinerseits Designer, HipHop Artist und Choreograph, als sie
sich in Dakar begegneten, ins Leben gerufen. Eine Stadt, die sie gern ihr
Refugium, ihre Zuflucht nennen. Eine Stadt in ständiger Veränderung, bewegt in
einer einzigartigen urbanen Trance, hypnotisch und brodelnd, die unaufhörlich
Ideen und Wünsche produziert. Dakar ist daher natürlicher Weise zu einer
grundlegenden Quelle der Inspiration der Marke geworden.
Das alltägliche Straßenleben, von dem Teil der Bevölkerung, aus dem sich das junge und moderne Afrika rekrutiert, tief verwurzelt und doch sich schnell verändernd, ist ein guter Mix für
die beiden Designer, die aus verschiedenen Kulturen kommen und zweifellos die
künstlerische Handschrift dieser beiden Erzähler formt.
BULL DOFF ist mehr als ein Label für Klamotten zum Anziehen,
BULL DOFF und seine Designer erzählen uns eine Geschichte.
Die Verschmelzung von Materialien, Symbolen und Zeichen, der
sie sich mutig nähern, um sie dann wieder zu brechen, sie zu mischen, sie neu zu
erfinden, hat sowohl eine ästhetische als auch eine erzählerische Bedeutung. Das
was sie uns anbieten zu tragen, beschäftigt all unsere Sinne.
Die Kombination altüberlieferter Symbole und Codes der Ahnenkultur,
gemixt mit Punk Rock Einflüssen, auf eine Linie gebracht, lädt ein sich diesem
Stil von Universalität und dem Verständnis von Modernität zu öffnen. Diese gelungene
Mischung macht Afrika möglich.
Diese von Fabrice Monteiro fotografierte Kollektion des Labels lässt unwillkürlich an Mad Max und die Donnerkuppel denken, an eine echt fiese Tina Turner, an Tribals und Warlords. An Widerstand und Revolution.

"THE RWANDA AVENIR
ASSOCIATION has worked for thirteen years in Kigali where it created a
community center with and for survivor of the Tutsi's Genocide. This house with
therapeutic and memory vocation proposes trainings and workshops in diverse
domains, favoring the artistic mediums. The Association has set up a choir of
traditional singings and a cooperative of IMIGONGO Art. They
help with modest money grants needy women, also bringing a feeling of pride to
those who practice and pass on these representative arts of rich Rwandan
heritage."
"In 2014, a workshop of
memory was born, allowing survivors to testify through the writing of a several
decades long story (1959-1994 ). These testimonies were the object of a
translated edition: « Exercise Books of Memory, Kigali, 2014 » (Editions
Classiques Garnier, 2017).
